    This home is located in Sisters’ Bazaar in Landour and enjoys a spectacular view of the Doon Valley. The retrofit involved structural changes which cut through thick stone walls to create contemporary unicellular living spaces, creating verandas, solarium and open viewing decks.

    The new home uses the existing envelope with new mezzanine spaces, large openings, space water heating under the new floor boards while renovating the original timber rafter roof, stone walls, fire places, etc.

    This home was designed for the musician/film maker couple who bought upper floor of the derelict 150 year old building in the lower Himalayas. The readapted design completely transformed the original while keeping the perimeter and the volume in accordance with the cantonment board regulations.

    The new home uses the existing envelope with the attic space for bedrooms and extends the south side gallery into a raised deck with a solarium with a 180 degree view of the valley and the Shivaliks. By inserting a new floor the covered area was increased from 2000 to around 4000 square feet.

    We were invited to design a Visual & Performing Arts Centre for the Village School on a hill top overlooking the Bhimtal lake. The brief was to repurpose the Palace of the erstwhile Maharaja of Jhind, located in the middle of the Village.

    Thus began our journey of exploring existing building stock as an opportunity to reclaim and rebuild for the future. Major structural and spatial intervention led this palace to function as a new, energetic and fun facility for the young.
